CST EnviroTech’s Integrated Biomass–Hydrogen Steam & Energy System for Community Kitchens is a sustainable, high-efficiency energy platform designed to provide reliable steam, thermal energy, and electricity while minimizing fuel consumption and environmental impact. In this system, biomass or MSW briquettes are converted in a gasifier into clean combustible producer gas (CO, H₂, CH₄), with ash safely separated as residue. The gas is purified through a tar separation unit to remove heavy hydrocarbons and particulates before being supplied to an IC engine–alternator for on-site power generation.
The electricity generated supports kitchen operations and powers an alkaline electrolyser that produces hydrogen. This hydrogen is blended back into the engine fuel stream to enhance combustion efficiency and increase overall energy extraction from the biomass input. Oxygen produced during electrolysis can be safely vented or used for auxiliary purposes.
The engine exhaust, typically around 550°C, is recovered in a Heat Recovery Boiler (HRB), where water is converted into steam. This steam is supplied directly to large-scale cooking systems such as rice cookers and dal cookers, ensuring uniform heating, faster cooking cycles, and improved energy efficiency. The use of steam-based cooking reduces direct flame exposure, enhances food quality, and ensures hygienic large-volume meal preparation.
Additional thermal energy from the engine jacket water system is also utilized, further improving the overall efficiency of the plant. By integrating electricity generation, hydrogen enrichment, steam production, and process heat into a single system, community kitchens can significantly reduce dependence on LPG, diesel, or firewood.
The result is a cost-effective, environmentally responsible, and scalable energy solution ideal for temples, hostels, hospitals, military facilities, disaster-relief kitchens, and other institutions serving large populations. This integrated approach ensures maximum resource utilization while promoting clean energy adoption and long-term sustainability.
