🌱 CST EnviroTech Integrated Biomass–Hydrogen Steam & Energy System for Powder Coating Applications

CST EnviroTech’s Integrated Biomass–Hydrogen Steam & Energy System for Powder Coating Plants is a high-efficiency renewable energy solution designed to deliver reliable thermal energy, electricity, and fuel enhancement while maximizing overall energy utilization. In this system, biomass or MSW briquettes are converted in a gasifier into clean combustible producer gas (CO, H₂, CH₄), with ash safely separated as a solid by-product. The raw gas is purified through a tar separation unit to remove heavy hydrocarbons and particulates before being supplied to an IC engine–alternator for on-site power generation.

The electricity produced supports plant operations and powers an alkaline electrolyser, which generates hydrogen. This hydrogen is blended back into the engine fuel stream, enhancing combustion efficiency, stabilizing flame characteristics, and increasing total energy extraction from the biomass input. Oxygen generated during electrolysis can be safely vented or utilized for auxiliary industrial applications.

The engine exhaust, typically around 550°C, is captured in a Heat Recovery Boiler (HRB). Water entering the HRB is converted into steam or high-temperature thermal energy, which is directed to the powder coating heating oven. This recovered heat ensures stable curing temperatures required for powder coating processes, improving coating quality and reducing dependency on conventional fossil-fuel burners.

In addition to exhaust heat recovery, thermal energy from the engine’s jacket water system is also utilized, further increasing plant efficiency. Condensate from the heating system is collected and managed for reuse, enhancing water efficiency and lowering operational costs.

The result is an integrated multi-output energy system that simultaneously produces electricity, hydrogen enrichment, steam, and high-temperature process heat from the same biomass source. By reducing fossil fuel consumption and improving thermal efficiency, the system delivers a sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible energy solution for powder coating and industrial finishing operations.
